Manic City are a Melbourne based trio of seasoned musicians whose diverse backgrounds span three continents. Their sound is a harder edged pop with big rock guitar riffs, that steals the soulfulness of R&B and funk and keeps the 80s synths handy.

When they are on the stage together audiences are captivated. The charismatic and foxy Valerie is mesmerizing to watch and listen to, and the solid songs are strong and catchy.

They put their talents to hard work together and Manic City was born.

BIO

At the age of 11 Alanna had already begun paving her path into the music industry, winning Pepsi’s creativity contest with the first song she wrote. She then went on to win another National contest with Australia’s most popular teen magazine, Girlfriend Magazine. Earning herself the title of “Girlfriend Of The Year 2007” for her prolific songwriting and singing abilities at the age of 14. This gained her much recognition in the Music Industry, and lead to her working closely with renowned Producer/songwriter Tom Nichols in London (Kylie Minogue, The Sugarbabes, Celine Dion, Timberland and Hall & Oats). However after working in the UK Alanna decided she wanted to break free from the manufactured Pop produced sound. Most people would have jumped at the opportunity to work with such music heavy weights, but Alanna decided she’d rather stay true to her sound and offer the industry something fresh and unique.

Alanna has toured the UK (with Darren Hayes guitarist’s, Steve Young and Owen Stephens) and Australia numerous times (with Girlfriend Magazine, MTV and the HOT30 COUNTDOWN). She is now sponsored by Australia’s number one guitar brand, Maton.

Over the past year Alanna has evolved and her uniqueness and vibrancy shines through with her debut E.P “Zero Gravity”. Veering stylistically between glossy modern Pop, raw acoustic and elements of soft rock. The songs share a common thread with honest and unpredictable lyrics, catchy melodies and memorable choruses. Her music is lively and energetic with a twist of darkness and she has been compared to artists such as KT Tunstall, Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morrisette.

The E.P was produced and recorded by producer/songwriter duo Law Of Numbers (Jem Carp and Dan Karni) whom have worked with Candice Alley – (ARIA award nominee) Femke and are currently working with international success Cody Simpson.

The pair teamed up with Alanna mid 2011 and have accomplished a killer 3 track E.P .

Tom Nichols (Producer/Songwriter): “Alanna I am seriously impressed you’re one of the most gifted artists I have ever met. Natural in every way, well done!”

Jem Carp (Law of Numbers): ““Alanna is a super talented songwriter, guitarist, performer and singer…she is the full package” 15 October 2011

David Jaanz (Singing super coach) “Alanna is one of the best singer/songwriters in the Global music market today. She has a distinctive, honest and unique style that will touch this generation and many to come. In a World of generic artists, Alanna stands out.”

When tracks like ‘Step Up’ and ‘Vertical Smile’ start pumping their way into your ears, you might find them touching you in places you’ve always wanted to be touched.

After opening shows for Bon Jovi, Airbourne, The Screaming Jets, Kram and many more, Dean Williams strums for the Mistress like no other on rhythm guitar.

Mr. Congo is a poet/artist turned DJ, his eclectic style of music fuses fashion and coolness. His sound is a mixture of old blues and jazz with a modern hip-hop twist.

Congo’s influences on deejaying are Prince, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Outkast, and Ray Charles. All different musicians, but difference is what separates them from the rest.

Mr. Congo has worked privately for the last few years and is secretive and selective about the gigs he plays. He recently played as supporting DJ with Usher’s OMG tour in Melbourne 2011. He enjoys the low key guerilla style of doing gigs and enjoys when the audience is captivated by his performance and his cool energy behind the decks. He says,”This enhances the exclusivity of the music and performance.”

Mr. Congo is local to Melbourne and hopes to expand his repertoire in the fashion and art scene. With an ear for rhythm, and an eye for what’s hot in the streets Mr. Congo is one of the grooviest, smoothest, and stylish deejays around.

Stay tuned for the beat!

Forming in 2008, The Word are an up and coming Melbourne based Rockband who have been playing their attention grabbing music to anyone within listening distance.

Launching themselves into the Melbourne music scene with their debut self-titled EP (2010), recorded at Sing-Sing studios with the very talented Matt Voigt (Living End, Powderfinger, Dukes of
Windsor), The Word are heavily inspired by any music that moves them, particularly 60′s music such as the The Who and The Beatles (from whom they took their name) and 90′s alternative rock, such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and Radiohead.

With influences from such a huge array of bands, The Word’s only criteria when it comes to their songwriting is to “write something that sounds different”.

Having played in just about every Melbourne venue with a massive array of local and interstate bands as well as some big support slots (John Stevens, Daryl Braithwaite), The Word have crafted an musical relationship on and off stage that never fails to please a new audience.

Tate Strauss has been DJing house music for over two decades and continues to grow and evolve today. Having commenced his first residency back in 1998, Tate has gone on to become a regular at many Melbourne Nightclubs and events.

Tate has witnessed and been a part of the meteoric rise of dance music, firstly in his hometown of Melbourne, then interstate and internationally playing guest spots in Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney an within the past few years various Industry Launches and Club gigs in Hong Kong and Shanghai

A style that’s been described as “Bass-driven House Music”, Tate’s sets incorporate a strong rhythmic and techy feel whilst remaining light hearted and funky – a combination, which gets any, dance floor moving! This dance floor oriented approach to set structure and programming, combined with deft skills and a huge bag full of personal bootlegs and unofficial remixes pushes the crowd to the limit.

Just starting his production debut, Tate has joined forces with the very talented Mobin Master for some future releases and has just signed up to run a new label Safari Tech under the very popular Safari Music label.

Given Tate’s increased focus on the production side of his trade, we look forward to seeing a lot more from this promising talent in the very near future.
